Across all three Acts of Baldur's Gate 3, players can find scores of weapons, from one-handed Crossbows to colossal Greatswords wielded in two hands. The best of these weapons are typically found later on in the game, but when players are in the second Act, for example, they can only get the best Act 2 weapons.

Rise above the competition in Baldur's Gate 3 by acquiring some of the best weapons early in Act 1.

Naturally, damage is a primary stat to look at, but often overlooked is the Weapon Enchantment, as a +1, +2, or +3 Enchantment makes a weapon significantly more likely to hit. Many of the best weapons also have passive effects or their own Actions and Spells. As well as knowing what these weapons do, it's also vital that players know where to find the best weapons in Act 2 of BG3.
5 Blade Of Oppressed Souls
Base Damage: 3~13 or 3~15
Type | Longsword |
---|---|
Damage | 1d8 + 1 Slashing (One-Handed) or 1d10 + 1 Slashing (Two-Handed) + 1d4 Psychic |
Enchantment | +1 |
Effects | Crowning Strike: Unleash the wails of the dead, and possibly instill Crown of Madness in the target. |
- Location: Unlocked by completing the brain puzzle in the Mind Flayer Colony.
The Blade of Oppressed Souls is one of the best Longswords in Baldur's Gate 3 and will deal more damage when wielded with both hands. Its bonus Psychic damage is extremely useful, as few enemies are resistant to it. By instilling an enemy with Crown of Madness, fights can become even easier, as they will attack the nearest creature, excluding the wielder of this weapon.
The sword can be found in the Mind Flayer Colony towards the end of Act 2, although players must first solve the Necrotic Laboratory puzzle. This puzzle is hard to miss as it's essentially a large multicolored brain.
4 Defender Greataxe
Base Damage: 3~14
Type | Greataxe |
---|---|
Damage | 1d12 + 2 Slashing |
Enchantment | +2 |
Effects |
|
- Location: Bought from Quartermaster Talli at the Last Light Inn.
As one of the best Axes in Baldur's Gate 3, the Defender Greataxe is a great option for Act 2, and it can be bought very early on. With a Weapon Enchantment of +2, attacks will hit more reliably, and each blow should deal heavy damage.

Understanding how to fight or even level up can be confusing in Baldur's Gate 3, but these simpler subclasses should help beginners get started.
Wielders also have the option to slightly increase their defenses at the cost of lowering the Weapon Enchantment by 1. This is a good option to have in certain fights. The Greataxe can be bought at the Last Light Inn from the Quartermaster known as Talli.
3 Sword Of Life Stealing
Base Damage: 3~8
Type | Shortsword |
---|---|
Damage | 1d6 + 2 Piercing |
Enchantment | +2 |
Effects | Life Stealing Critical: On a Critical Hit, the target takes an extra 1-10 Necrotic damage as long as it isn't a construct or an undead. The wielder also gains 10 temporary hit points. |
- Location: Bought from Dammon at the Last Light Inn.
With a Weapon Enchantment of +2, the Sword of Life Stealing is already a solid option, and it can be dual-wielded or used alongside one of BG3's best shields. It becomes a truly great weapon, however, when it crits. This is because bonus Necrotic damage will be dealt, and the wielder will gain 10 temporary HP.
The other great thing about the Sword of Life Stealing is that it can be bought right at the start of Act 2 from Dammon at the Last Light Inn. Thus, it can be used for almost the entire second Act.
2 Halberd Of Vigilance
Base Damage: 4~16
Type | Halberd |
---|---|
Damage | 1d10 + 2 Slashing + 1d4 Force |
Enchantment | +2 |
Effects |
|
- Location: Sold by Lann Tarv at Moonrise Towers.
The Halberd of Vigilance is not only one of the best Act 2 weapons, but also among the best Two-Handed weapons in BG3. It has excellent Slashing damage, complemented by bonus Force damage, which almost no enemies are resistant to. Any reaction attacks, such as Opportunity Attacks or Sentinel hits, will also be more likely to hit with Advantage.

Lastly, having a slight increase in Initiative should not be overlooked, as this makes it more likely players get to have their turns earlier. Killing enemies before they even get to fight back is one of the best outcomes in combat. The Halberd of Vigilance can be bought at Moonrise Towers early on in Act 2 from Lann Tarv.
1 Selune's Spear Of Night/Shar's Spear Of Evening
Base Damage: 4~9 or 4~11
Type | Spear |
---|---|
Damage | 1d6 + 3 Piercing (One-Handed) or 1d8 + 3 Piercing (Two-Handed) |
Enchantment | +3 |
Selune's Spear of Night Effects |
|
Shar's Spear of Evening Effects |
|
- Location: Rewarded for sparing or killing the Nightsong, in the Shadowfell.
Players can only get their hands on one Legendary weapon in Act 2, but there are two versions of this Spear. Selûne's Spear of Night and Shar's Spear of Evening have the same damage and an incredibly strong Weapon Enchantment of +3. However, they differ in their effects and abilities, of which they both have many.
To get either of these Spears, players will need to progress through the Gauntlet of Shar until they reach the Shadowfell where the Nightsong is imprisoned. They will also want to take Shadowheart with them. If the player allows Shadowheart to kill the Nightsong, she will be awarded with Shar's Spear of Evening. If they instead convince her to spare the Nightsong, Selune's Spear of Night will be granted by the Nightsong herself after taking a long rest.
